BTTS Betting Explained

Summary: BTTS is the abbreviated version for Both Teams to Score, a popular football betting market. You place a bet on whether or not both teams will score at least one goal each in a match and as soon as that happens the bet is settled. Its a yes or no bet, so you can bet for BTTS or against BTTS

Both Teams to Score Definition

BTTS means Both Teams to Score. In terms of betting, BTTS is a popular football betting market commonly associated with Accas and Bet Builders. You place a bet on whether or not both teams will score at least one goal each in a match and as soon as that happens the bet is settled.

Both Teams to Score & Yes

BTTS Yes means you're choosing to back both teams to score instead of opposing it. BTTS is a yes or no bet, meaning you can bet in favor of both teams to score with BTTS Yes. Or you bet against both teams scoring by choosing BTTS No. When you're viewing the BTTS market, you'll have 2 selections for a match, it's not one. You can bet on BTTS yes meaning you think both teams will score in the game or you can select BTTS no meaning you think that at least one team (or both teams) will fail to score.

Result & Both Teams to Score Definition

BTTS & Result is a variant bet that includes BTTS in part of a more complex single bet type. Result and both teams to score is a bet where you get to choose who will win the game and it includes the requirement for both teams to score to settle as a win. You can pick either team to "Get The Result" which means you pick them to win. Its not a double or a multiple, it's a single bet with many parts. If one part fails, like your chosen team draws or loses, the bet has lost.

What Does BTTS No Draw Mean

BTTS no draw means any team will win the game and both teams will score. For this bet to win firstly both teams have to score, that's the prerequisite of any BTTS variant bet. But the result is not a draw. Any team can win, it doesn't matter in this case. It's a difficult market to predict because inevitably games where either team can win, could be the ones that are also likely to be draws. So be cautious with these types of bets if the fixture looks like it is a 50/50 type game.

BTTS Betting Rules

  • Bet BTTS Yes or BTTS No: BTTS is the market but you can choose to bet yes or no
  • Both Teams Must Score: Each team must score at least one goal, when that happens the market is settled

  • 1-1 Is The Minimum: The score doesn't matter, as soon as both teams have scored, the market is settled
  • No Score Draws: A 0-0 result means BTTS yes is a lost bet, but if you bet No it has won

  • 90-Minute Rule: BTTS bets only consider goals scored within 90 minutes plus injury time, not extra time or penalty shootouts

  • Goals or Final Whistle: The market closes when both teams score of the ref blows for fulltime

How To Bet On BTTS

There are two ways to bet on BTTS. Go to the fixture by selecting the game you want to be on. You'll be taken to the list of all bets for that fixture. BTTS is usually in the popular bets sections so it should be available as a bet as soon as you load the page, normally below the results markets. If it's not there, it's likely to be in the goals tab.

Secondly, BTTS can be found in the coupon sections of the site where single betting markets are listed by games, so you can run down a list of fixtures and BTTS yes or no are the only bets available. This allows the ability to load them into an accumulator quickly while also looking at all other fixtures available in that BTTS market.

Before placing BTTS bets, do some research and look at scenarios where goals could be a factor. We have a BTTS Stats page where we show you the exact stats for teams' BTTS history and some BTTS Predictions where we have profiled those stats into fixture probabilities.

BTTS Bet Builders: Both teams to score yes makes a great addition to your bet builders in my opinion. As it can settle early if you choose yes and is still active if no goals have been scored yet or 1 team is still on zero.

BTTS as a condition (both team scoring) actually allows bookies to enhance other bets, which historically would have been seen as incompatible multiples. Combined they become single betting markets all reliant on a minimum of both team scoring, plus whatever other conditions are being priced.

BTTS Variations

  1. BTTS - Yes: The bet wins if both teams score at least once.
  2. BTTS - No: The bet wins if at least one team does not score.
  3. BTTS & Result: The wins if both teams score and the final result (win, lose, draw) is correctly predicted
  4. BTTS No Draw: Wins when both teams score and the game ends with either team winning the game
  5. BTTS in Both Halves: Both teams must score a goal each, in each half.
  6. BTTS & Total Over: Both teams must score, and the total goals must exceed a set number like 2.5 or 3.5.

BTTS Examples

Liverpool v Chelsea 1-1 at halftime

Liverpool are playing Chelsea its 1-1 by the 30th minute. Chelsea scored first in the first ten minutes to make it 0-1. In the 30th minute, Liverpool equalise and it's now 1-1 in this case the BTTS market is over and it settles all BTTS elements of any bets. If you bet BTTS yes, it has won. If you bet BTTS no it has lost.

  • BTTS Yes = Won
  • BTTS No = Lost

Liverpool v Chelsea 4-3 at fulltime

In a different scenario, Liverpool are playing Chelsea again. By the 70th minute, the score is 4-0 to Liverpool. So at this stage, all BTTS bets are still live as long as the game is still playing in 90 minutes. In the 71st minute, Chelsea score their first goal and its 4-1. At this point, the BTTS market is closed and all BTTS bets are settled. The game finished and the score is eventually 4-3 which is irrelevant as the markets settled at 4-1

  • BTTS Yes = Won
  • BTTS No = Lost

Liverpool v Chelsea 0-1 at fulltime

Liverpool are playing Chelsea it's 0-1 for most of the game until it finally ends with Chelsea holding on for the win. The BTTS market stayed open and live for the entire game until the referee blew the final whistle and the game ended with Chelsea winning 0-1. All bets that needed BTTS yes are settled as lost. But if you bet BTTS no then this bet will have won

  • BTTS Yes = Lost
  • BTTS No = Won

Is Goals Galore The Same As BTTS

Yes, "Goals Galore" is the promo name used by the betting company Betfred for their version of the "Both Teams to Score" (BTTS) market. And if you ask me I would say they made betting on BTTS popular by calling it goals galore in the early 2000s, coupled with their in-store coupons they became pretty famous for it.

"Goals Galore" markets on Betfred coupons might have different prices and can come with different promotions. Betfred often offers fixed odds on their "Goals Galore" slips, if you select the minimum number of games.

Do Own Goals Count in Both Teams to Score

Yes, own goals count. It's not the person or the manner of scoring that counts, it's just the total. If both team's goal count goes above 0, so when neither team has Nil, the bet is settled. Regardless of who scored or how they scored, BTTS just means both teams have 1 or more goals each in their score.
