Betting On Goals In Soccer

Summary: Betting on goals comes in different formats, it's a category, not a single betting market. It's a collection of many different variations of team or player betting. Goals are one of the most common bets besides the result. Goals can be broken down in different ways like the game total, over and under selections, teams scores, player scores, first-half goals and many more. If you're new to betting on goals we recommend trying the both teams to score betting market. Its one of the simplest bet types to understand and is quite a common occurrence in football matches.

There are several different ways to bet on goals in soccer betting. Goals have become one of the pillars of sports betting and there are tonnes of different varieties of goal specific betting.

Goal betting isn't a single bet type, it's a category of collective betting markets. In most sportsbooks, when you select a football match and access the betting, you can filter by goals and all the goals based markets are grouped.

Some of the more popular methods of goal betting are:

Over/Under Goals

This is one of the most popular betting markets. This type of bet involves predicting whether the total number of goals scored in a match will be over or under the market value you're betting on. In the over 1.5 goals market for example, you can bet on whether there will be two or more goals in the game from either team. Check out our over 1.5 goals stats or read more about over/under goals betting.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS)

We also call this bet Goals Galore. In this market, you predict whether both teams will score at least one goal each in the normal 90 minutes of the game. It doesn't matter how many goals are scored, as long as both teams score at least 1. Extensions of this market are both teams to score in each half or combined BTTS with a result.

Team to Score First/Next/Last Goal

Naturally you can bet on teams to score. With most sportsbooks, betting on team goals involves betting on the first team to score, the next team to score (usually in play) and the last team to score. If you selected team scores within these criteria you bet wins.

Player to Score First

This is a player goals bet and involves predicting which player will score the first goal in the match. Own goals scored by your chosen player do not count and this must be within the normal 90 minutes of the game.

Anytime Goalscorer

Just like first player to score, this market is a single bet on a chosen player to score anytime during the game. You pick a player and if they score 1 goal in 90 minutes, your bet wins. Once again, own goals do not count.

Total Team Goals

In this type of bet, you predict the total number of goals a specific team will score in a match. This is often broken into sub-categories where you might be able to predict the exact number, an over/under amount, or with some bookies you can guess if the total will be odd or even.

Correct Score

This is a more difficult but popular bet among football bettors for its high returns, where you try to predict the exact final score of the match. You need to guess the exact score of the normal time result +injury time (not cup game extra time).

Scorecast

For those who prefer a little more adventurous, but risky betting, you can combine the correct score with a first player to score prediction called a scorecast. It's not a multiple bet, it is still considered a single. First, you predict which player will score first, that's one part of the bet, and then are given the list of the fulltime final score to choose alongside your scorer.

Time of First Goal

Select the period in which the first goal will be scored. In this bet, the bookie will offer you time based options like 1-3 minutes or the first 15 minutes. Each bookie is different in terms of the periods they offer.

Win to Nil

This is another combination bet, but not classified as a multiple. In this bet, you pick the team to win, but your selection is based on that team winning and keeping a clean sheet. It might be considered more of a result based bet, but it's the no goal element that makes this a goals based bet in our view.

These are just a few examples of goal-related bets in soccer betting. Different bookmakers may offer additional variations and combinations of these bets, providing more options for bettors.
